Seven years ago, then businessman, Donald J. Trump, infamously rode down the escalator of his stark fortress, Trump Tower. Once he stepped off those golden steps, the political landscape of the United States of America changed forever. For seven grueling years, the left-run media and career politicians have spent every waking moment politically persecuting the biggest threat to their agenda: the idea of Trump being our president.
Background
In the gripping 2016 Presidential Election, Trump grabbed onto victory against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This victory created massive ripples across America. Primarily, allegations of Russian interference with the election congested news cycles for months. As a result, FBI Director James Comey informed Congress of an investigation they are working on, which placed Trump’s campaign in complicity with the alleged Russian interference. Shortly thereafter, Comey was fired by the Trump Administration and Robert Mueller was appointed as a special prosecutor in this investigation, bringing down several White House and Trump campaign officials. However, he finished his report and found “no collusion” between the President, Russia and the election.
Joining only two other presidents, Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives on Dec. 18, 2019. But this didn’t last, as the Senate voted it down relatively quickly. Not only did Trump make history once, but twice as he was impeached for a second time on his way out of office, still lacking a conviction by the Senate. He commonly calls these impeachments “hoaxes” and claims they are “phony witch hunts” to destroy him.
Trump solidified his presidency as the most polarizing one yet, concluding with the final days with an extravagant legal campaign to overturn the confirmed results of the 2020 election and a protest spiraling into an “insurrection” against the Capitol. After the attack, Trump was silenced. After he was banned off of social media platforms and sent out of Washington, the Democrats and the media thought he was done and would disappear into his resort-mansion, Mar-a-Lago.
Indictment
When President Trump announced his campaign to run for re-election in November of 2022, the battle and investigations against him came about again. Alvin Bragg campaigned for District Attorney on the sole promise that he would “get Trump”, and so he did, charging the former president with 34 felony counts on April 4, 2023.
This indictment is the latest installation in the undying pursuit to force Trump into hiding, but of course, his support doesn’t waiver. His supporters, the MAGA Republicans, showcased their disgust of these charges throughout Florida and New York City. Political pundits and politicians on both sides of the aisle have condemned the political prosecution exercised by DA Bragg. Not only is it unprecedented, it even lacks preponderance of the evidence.
As for the charges, they all relate to ‘falsified’ business records regarding the alleged hush-money payments made to disgraced pornstar Stormy Daniels in the 2016 election. It’s clear that this will not result in a guilty verdict, but Bragg wants the media to focus on this as long as possible, in hopes of sweeping the nomination away from Trump and eventually the presidency.
This is a dangerous and embarrassing attempt on our democracy, and it shows the world how weak we are because of the in-fighting between two political parties who use shifty tactics to take down someone and ruin them.
