Three-star cornerback, Jonas Duclona, announced on Dec. 12 that he is committing to the University of Wisconsin following his recent de-commitment from the University of Cincinnati.

In early June, Duclona committed to the University of Cincinnati after an official visit he took the day prior. However, news broke in November that then Head Coach Luke Fickell would be departing from the team and accepting the head position at the University of Wisconsin. This decision prompted numerous prospects to revoke his commitment and open up his recruitment.

“My decision on de-committing came from the coach leaving, and the recruiting coordinators going with, so I felt like it was the best for me to back out,” Duclona said.

After he rescinded his commitment in late November, Duclona reopened his commitment and took an interest in Wisconsin. Duclona took an official visit to the university on Dec. 9 and has decided to commit to playing football for the team.

“I committed to Wisconsin because of the relationship I’ve built with the old Cincinnati staff, which most of them work for Wisconsin now,” Duclona said.

At the forefront of his recruitment process, Duclona had many factors in play as to where he wanted to play the next four years of his football career. The news of Fickell’s transferring to Wisconsin can be seen as a leading factor for Duclona, and many others, moving to the school. Duclona will be playing alongside NHS alumnus Chez Mellusi, who is currently a running back for the Badgers.

“The main focus I was looking for in my decision was a brotherhood, an opportunity to get to play on the field early on and a program that is going to help me be successful in life after football,” Duclona said.
