Eric Maya, Assistant Principal of Attendance and Discipline, has decided to leave Naples High School for an upcoming career opportunity. Maya has been the school’s assistant principal for five years and will now take on the Assistant Director of Student Relations role at the district office.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity given to me by everybody here to help me grow and to help me in this case, move on to the next part of my life, to my next challenge,” Maya said. “I tried to show them love, and I tried to help them in whatever situation that they were in. That’s what I hope I came across during my five years here.”

In addition to Mr. Maya’s appreciation for the school and anticipation of what lies ahead, students throughout the school have shown their fondness for Mr. Maya and exhibit their dismay at seeing him go.

“He’s just always like, good to be around,” freshman class president Bella Berggren said. “He makes pep rallies fun. If you’re in the office, he makes jokes.”

Not only have the students shown their remorse for Maya’s absence and excitement for his future, but also many of his colleagues, Kristina Lee, Principal of Naples High School, included.

“It has been a privilege to know and work alongside Mr. Maya, to call him a highly respected colleague and a cherished friend,” Lee says. “I will end with the same message that Mr. Maya begins our days with…If no one has told you today, Mr. Maya, we love you! We do love Mr. Maya and will miss him dearly!”
