The world came to a grinding halt in 2020 and so did school spirit. There were no more football games, pep rallies or  dress up days. When schools did eventually reopen, it was not  the same. With social distancing and mask mandates, students could not find the energy to go all out and show their school spirit. However, it’s been four years since then, and the class of 2025 has become more spirited with every school event.

The only other class that came close to the spirit of 2025 was class of 2022. This was the year that baseball, softball and girls lacrosse all won regionals. In addition, girls soccer was the state runner up that year. This could have been one of the reasons that the class of 2022 was so spirited, but I believe there was another reason behind this too.

When we first came back from COVID-19 in 2020, there were still a lot of mandates and rules to keep everyone healthy, resulting in the class of 2021 to be less spirited. However, the next year, the mask mandates and social distancing were lifted, creating more freedom for students to enjoy themselves. Even when the school wanted to cancel homecoming due to health concerns, the class of 2022 rallied back and persuaded faculty to proceed with homecoming.

The class of 2025 is the first class to be graduating without having their high school years affected by mask mandates or social distancing. They got the pure and honest experience of what it’s like to be a high schooler. They were able to do anything and everything that they wanted, and eventually, COVID- 19  was left behind like a bad memory.

We are only a few months into school and so far they have made a noticeable impact. Hopefully the class of 2025 can keep the energy going, and set the standard for underclassmen to follow.
