Luis Nicacio was selected to the 2017 Macy’s Great American Marching Band Music Festival on Thanksgiving, where he will be playing the tenor saxophone in the parade just as he does for the school’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.
Nicacio will represent Naples High School as he joins 184 other high school musicians from all over the country in the 91st annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on Nov. 23.
“I feel very grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to be 1 of the 15 musicians to represent the state of Florida in the world’s largest parade,” Nicacio said. “Not only representing Collier County, but also the state of Florida is such a big honor for me.”
The Naples drum major was able to raise $2500 within nine days of starting a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost of his trip. The trip covers the musician’s meals, lodging, and sightseeing around New York.
“This opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I do not have any words to describe the excitement I have for this event,” Nicacio included on his GoFundMe page.
