Many of the winners who run for Homecoming King or Queen do so on a whim and don’t expect to be selected to be in the Homecoming Court.

“This year, my friends and I decided to go just for the fun of nominations without expecting this outcome,” sophomore Vianeth Moga said.

There are a variety of traditions that students are able to do right before the dance. Many often go to a restaurant to have a good meal before heading to the dance floor. In some cases, they will go to a friend’s house to get ready for the night.

“I don’t have all of my plans together for Homecoming, but I definitely plan on going with a large group of friends,” senior Lucas Edwards said. “I’m wearing a blue dress shirt and a solid color tie to the dance. I’m pretty sure I am going to an Italian restaurant before the dance.”

The entire week of Homecoming is eventful with a variety of school events that many enjoy. For those who won Homecoming Court, however, the event that is most looked forward to is often the football game. During the game, the winners dress up in their fancy attire and walk through the field with their sashes and crowns.

“I’m most excited for the walk across the football field because I think it would be special and cool to walk across the field with so many eyes staring at me,” freshman Newell Barefoot said.

For some high school students, being homecoming king and queen means something special and will come with lots of new, exciting experiences.

“I’ve decided to [run for] homecoming king because I wanted to experience something new before I graduated, knowing that I would have a story to tell after high school,” Ramirez said.
