Christmas is around the corner, and it is the time of year for the annual Naples Christmas Parade on Dec. 6. The parade involves floats, fire engines, Boy and Girl Scouts, civil groups, school groups, school bands and many more.

The parade gives a chance for high school students to come together and put on a show for the town, with Naples High School being featured in the parade numerous times. Despite the transition to a new band director, the performance in the parade looked promising.

“I think the students have a great job of preparing,” Band Director Steve McGuire said.

McGuire has commented that he is sure his students are ready for the Christmas parade. With all of the after school practices, they managed to learn a variety of music pieces that they are ready to showcase.

“We’re playing a tune called ‘Christmas Spectacular’,” McGuire said. “It’s like ten Christmas songs mashed into a minute and a half.”

In the parade, not only does the audience hear the bands play but also see the Color Guard band perform. The viewers get to see a visual of the song while the musicians perform.

“The dance matches perfectly with the song I like,” sophomore Brooke Hyde said.

Everyone coming out to have fun while getting into the Christmas spirit is what the parade is about. Seeing these groups can also influence the kids there as they get a look at what high school bands and other programs do.

“My favorite part of the parade is being able to put on a performance for the people that come,” sophomore Katheryn Avalos Quintanilal said.
