Students taking part of Friday’s nationwide school walkout gathered on the Staver Field bleachers to show their support for gun reform. The walkout was scheduled to take place at 10am Friday in memory of the Columbine High School shooting.
The walkout was not a school sanctioned event. As a result, students who took part in the protest were subject to an unexcused absence and a lunch detention.
Students who organized the walkout planned the event ahead of time with administration. Faculty and staff were made aware of the event, an altered bell schedule, and how to handle attendance.
