Now that winter is coming to an end, and the cold weather is fading away, the warm weather of spring has come to Naples. The annual spring bloom is bringing the pollen levels up, and causing Naples residents to have trouble with their allergies.

Students at Naples High School have noticed the high pollen levels, and are finding ways on how to deal with it.

“I have noticed that the pollen has increased heavily,” senior Benji Howard said. “I have been sneezing and coughing a lot more than usual.”

The pollen in the air gets into the nasal passage or mouth, and causes allergic reactions to occur.

“The pollen is bad because my sinuses are so clogged up,”senior Julia Marceau said. “I run track and I can’t breathe through my nose.”

Some students are even missing school because of the higher pollen levels; as it is causing them to get other illnesses besides a runny nose and cough.

“I got a sinus infection recently,”senior Tim Wiles said. “I’m going to the pharmacy today to pick up some medicine for myself.”

Other students rely on basic over the counter medicines to help relieve their sinus problems due to the high pollen levels.

“I use Claritin Clear twice a day and some tissues,” senior Zac McWilliams said “I sneeze and cough a lot. One time I even had to leave work early because I wasn’t feeling too good.”
