Cheer and football season seem far away to most students, although it’s actually just around the corner. The 2019 season football cheer tryouts will take place Saturday, April 13 in the NHS blue gym.
Although it’s a new season, some returning cheerleaders have been around for quite awhile.
“I’m really looking forward to the 2019 football cheer season,” junior Taylor Bennett said. “It will be my senior year so it’s kind of crazy that these are my last tryouts.”
Bennett expresses that she has met some of her best friends from cheer and she will be sad to see it end.
“I have been captain twice on varsity cheer and I’m looking forward to possibly leading the team again this year,” Bennett said.
Another upcoming senior is also sad to see her last season.
“This is going to be my last cheer season, and I’m looking forward to doing it with my girls,” junior Kaelen Wood said.
Both Bennett and Wood have been in the program every season since their freshmen year.
One sophomore is looking forward to possibly moving up squads.
“I’m really nervous but excited for tryouts,”sophomore Davan Connolly said. I hope to move up to varsity this year.”
Some veteran cheerleaders have been working hard to get ready for the season, especially this upcoming senior year.
“I’ve been going to Progressive to stay ready for tryouts and get ready for cheer workouts again,” junior Grace Mulholland said.
Many girls have been doing the same thing to prepare- practicing at the Naples Progressive tumbling gym before the new season.
Cheering at NHS has been such a great experience for every girl interviewed, and the upcoming seniors are looking forward to the last chapter.
