As temperatures rise, flowers bloom and daylight hours lengthen, spring has finally sprung in Southwest Florida. Not only does the season signify a change outdoors, but it similarly signifies a new change inside school classrooms. For many, the end of the school year, and high school in its entirety, is coming to an end. With this end comes exciting high school traditions many have waited years to celebrate.

Prom is one of the most significant events in students’ high school experience. In celebrating the graduating class, prom involves dinner, dancing and of course, formal attire. The style of dress that is chosen must not only compliment them, but serve as a representation of their identity.

Styles and Stores

Windsor (with prices between $30 to $80), Lulu’s and Meshki are among the more affordable stores to search for dresses this year, with dresses around $70 to $80. Their best sellers have shared popular styles including form-fitting satin and cowl necklines. Sequins paired with an elegant lace-up back is another strong choice sure to be made on prom night.

With such a close proximity to Naples High School, both Macy’s and Dillard’s have been recognized for their selection of prom dresses this season. Many of their popular dresses include a unique asymmetrical style, embroidery or high slit gowns, each of which are among this year’s hottest trends and styles.

For those willing to make a more expensive purchase, stores including Sherri Hill Official, Studio Minc and Marchesa are sure to impress. According to the Sherri Hill website, 2022 trends will include embroidered tops, off-the-shoulder looks and metallic tones.

Finding “the one” is considered a difficult task, but Studio Minc provides an array of timeless classics and elegant evening wear. Their best sellers include fish tail skirts, V-necks and open back looks. One of their most popular dresses, Shisha, includes a cowl bodice and a glitter embellished knit. Its elasticized fit also ensures for a comfortable feel, perfect for the dance floor.

Rent or Buy?

Depending on your dress and its look, deciding whether to buy or rent is usually situational. For those who plan to keep costs to a minimum, renting is a viable choice. If the dress is beautiful, but much too expensive to buy, renting is an affordable option that allows you to impress on prom night for a lower cost.

However, for the large number of those who shop online, renting a dress may not be possible. For modest dresses, many stores either do not offer rentals or lack a sufficient range of size options. By buying a dress, one can make their own alterations and keep the memory of prom alive by making the dress their very own.

Between a variety of colors and styles to choose from, making the big decision of what to wear is simultaneously nerve wracking and exciting. Whether one prefers an A-line ball gown or a simple fitted dress, what truly matters is feeling confident. Most only have the opportunity to attend a traditional prom once or twice in their lifetimes, so it’s important to make the experience one to remember.
