After nearly thirteen years, the sequel to “Puss in Boots”, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”, was released Dec. 21. Placed in a fictional world surrounded by magic and fairy tales, the movie shares the story of a cat who took his nine lives for granted and embarked on an adventure to gain nine more lives.

The main character, Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), teams up with an old partner, Kitty Soft Paws (Salma Hayeck), and a new fan favorite, Perro (Harvey Guillen), to retrieve a star that would grant Puss more lives and help him escape from death.

Those involved in the making of this movie put all their effort into this production, and it shows. By perfectly embodying the characters and their emotions using animation and dialogue, the directors, actors and animators worked together to create a truly awe-inspiring movie. Not only was DreamWorks able to preserve the original characters from the prequel, which many others failed to do, they were also able to perfectly incorporate characters from childhood favorite fairy tales such as Goldilocks (Florence Pugh) and The Three Bears. The story was further developed by adding obstacles to our main characters’ adventure, helping truly elevate this movie to the next level.

A menacing new villain was also introduced, The Big Bad Wolf (Wagner Moura), who kept everyone on the edge of their seats and was a perfect contrast to the fearless and careless feline, Puss. DreamWorks is known for creating top tier villains, and the writers did not disappoint when creating The Big Bad Wolf.

Overall, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” was an amazing piece of animation with both strong lead and side characters who taught the audience many important life lessons. “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” was a perfect movie to end 2022 and to enter 2023 with and left us with high hopes for the next film featuring Puss In Boots.
