The new F350 is the most capable one-ton pickup on the market, with the highest horsepower and torque of all 3500 pickups.
According to Ford’s website, the truck makes 500 horsepower and 1200 pound-feet of torque. That tops the Dodge Ram 3500, which has 420 horsepower and 1,075 pound-feet of torque. The truck’s powertrain and features make it one of the most versatile on the market.
Ford’s new one-ton pickup has many new features that enhance its utility. Some examples of the new features are the onboard scales with a smart hitch and the blind spot information system. According to Ford’s website, the onboard scales help estimate the weight and balance of the truck as you put your payload in.
The smart hitch measures the tongue weight to help with safe loading. The scales make loading and hauling safer, reducing the chances of improper loading, which causes many preventable accidents across the nation.
The new blind spot sensors alert the driver when a vehicle is in the truck’s or the trailer’s blind spot. The blind spot sensors help prevent many accidents involving blind spots when trailering. Despite the truck’s impressive specs, the truck is not flawless.
“The powertrain needs some improvement in the front axles and the transmission,” a trucker for ACME truck line said.
The front axles have issues with snapping and the transmission has rough shifts, which can cause the truck to lunge.
“I have had issues with the firewall and many issues with electronics and wiring. I know many people that have the same wiring issues,” the trucker said.
Ford could improve the electronics and wiring as they work towards the next generation of Super Duty trucks.
“The specs are the best in its class, and I think the new body style looks good,” the trucker said, “The powertrain is the best for a one-ton pickup, but there are some underlying issues in the drivetrain and the wiring.”
Overall, Ford has made industry-leading improvements on the new F350 pickup truck.
