Gypsy Rose Blanchard was recently released from prison after serving eight out of her original ten-year sentence. Upon Blanchard’s release there have been mixed reactions while some are happy others have a negative reaction to this news.

“No, I don’t think she did anything physically, she didn’t kill her mom and she also had no choice for her. There was no way to get out of the situation she was in unless one of them died,” freshman Janiya Tanelus said.

Gypsy Rose’s release has many excited and constantly looking for more information on her release. While everyone has an opinion, some cannot decide and have mixed feelings towards this subject.

“A pro [to her release] is that she could finally be released and is not going to go back to feeling trapped and she is now going to have a happy marriage. A con, however, is that her mom had to be killed for her to have a happy life,” freshman Cinthya Lazaro said.

Gypsy Rose’s ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, who killed Gypsy’s mother, is serving a life sentence, while Gypsy only faced eight years. Some say it isn’t fair and not right that Blanchard got out while GodeJohn was sentenced to life.

“Yes, I believe he deserved life because he is mentally not right and has multiple personalities and one hurts people on the other hand.” freshman Mariah Augus said.

Blanchard was assigned to serve ten years. Instead of serving these ten years, Blanchard got out early and ultimately ended up serving eight years due to good behavior.

“I think it was good that she was able to get out early because she didn’t deserve all she went through,” Tanelus said.
