The 2023 Netflix show “Castlevania: Nocturne” is the sequel to the four-season-long “Castlevania,” which released episodes from 2017 to 2021. Both shows are based on the Japanese video game series.

“Castlevania” is about Dracula’s revenge on the people of Wallachia, now modern-day Romania, for killing his wife.

It follows Trevor Belmont, the last descendant of a family of monster hunters, who wanders around Wallachia with no goals or direction. He meets a speaker magician named Sypha Belnades. Adrian Tepes, also known as Alucard, the son of Dracula, later joins the duo, completing the heroic trio. Together, they aim to fight Dracula to stop his war on the humans.

The story has hints of inspiration from Romanian folklore and Greek and Christian mythology. The anime-style animation of “Castlevania: Nocturne” is just as spectacular as its prequel. The fight scenes are visually satisfying and incredibly captivating.

The 2023 show “Castlevania: Nocturne” takes place over three hundred years later, during the French Revolution. Vampires use the chaos of the world to their advantage.

Richter Belmont, the protagonist, is a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha. He is aided by relatives Tera and Maria Rennard, both magicians. They make allies with Edouard, a sword fighter, and Annete, a magician. The group faces the challenge of defending France and the world from the oncoming vampire hordes led by the Devourer of Light.

“Castlevania: Nocturne” features several references to the original show and some surprise character appearances.

Season 2 is set to come out sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.
