Music plays a huge part in affecting everyone’s lives. It helps some feel connected and appreciated, and most use music to relax and calm down. Listening to music can determine one’s mood for the rest of the day. It is how a person can share their story with the rest of the world.

Apple Music is a popular music platform that many use to listen to their favorite tunes.

For the students at NHS, a popular genre is rap while others enjoy soul music.

“I listen to a lot of rappers like Lil Durk, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi and many other artists that aren’t rappers like Dominic Fike,” junior Richard Soto said. “He is an alternative artist and he brings me joy and good vibes all around.”

Although rap is popular, others tend to listen to more meaningful music that connects to their culture, while some prefer music that gets listeners pumping.

“MHD is a French singer I listen to, because his song area is really understanding and very entertaining,” junior Altagrace Aime said. “My other favorite artist is Dadju. He is also a French singer [and] his songs have a lot of meaning to them, such as his song “Maamou”, which talks about him and his daughter. As a French speaker, I can relate so much to them.”

Along with Americanized genres, Spanish is the next most well-known genre. Students like junior Sebastian Martinez express their culture by listening to artists like Bad Bunny, Luar La L, J Balvin and Bizarrap.

”I listen to that genre because I feel identified by it and it’s a good genre to dance to,” Martinez said.
